the ideal SIZE AND placement OF
SEMI-FLUSH LIGHTS
Semi-flush light fixtures provide great ambient lighting. They are ideal for kitchens, dining rooms, bedrooms and foyers.
Semi-flush lighting helps give the illusion of a higher ceiling by providing up and down lighting. They help open up a small room and give the feeling of more space.
SEMI-FLUSH LIGHT
IN A FOYER
The foyer creates the first impression of your home, so ambient light is perfect here with a couple accent light sources. Semi flush-mount lights are ideal for ceilings between 8' and 10'. They generally hang less than a foot away from the ceiling and should be about 84" from the ground.
If your foyer has a vaulted ceiling, go bold with a chandelier or pendant light for a more dramatic entrance. If you have a side table, a table lamp provides a secondary light source.
SEMI-FLUSH LIGHT
IN A BEDROOM
Bedroom lighting should evoke a feeling of calm.
Semi-flush-mount lights are the perfect source for ambient lighting for low ceilings of 9 feet or less.
To determine an appropriate diameter for ceiling fixtures measure the length and width of the room. Add those two numbers together and then convert the total into inches. So if your room is 10 feet by 12 feet, the ceiling fixture should be 22 inches wide.
When hanging a semi-flush-mount, hang the light in the center of the most important visual feature of the room. In the bedroom, this feature will most likely be the bed.
